Aircraft Carriers...A Poem

In the oleander-shaded ditch,

widened past the head-gate

by rushing, umber waters,

I sailed my purple plastic ship

among the minnows,

while men and boys,

ten years older than I,

rode their grey craft

amid the sharks

at Midway and the Coral Sea.
